Name: Anthony Trem
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Short Stop for the Indians
Tell us about your first experience with yoga:
I went with my wife, Rachel, and I could not figure out why my shoulders hurt so badly!!! I could not hold my arms up.
What is your favorite aspect of Yoga?
The balance between the physical and mental challenge.
What is the most challenging aspect of yoga, for you personally?
Allowing myself to have a “bad” practice. Before teacher training, I would always get frustrated when I could not get into a particular pose or when I lost my balance. I have become more patient on days that I just don’t have “it” but still find myself getting frustrated.
How have you seen your practice change/impact your life?
I have become more patient and have learned how to breathe and use that in certain life situations.
Why do you love teaching at Cleveland Yoga, and what is your favorite aspect of teaching?
The comradery and welcoming of the staff and the students. There is a sense of community in each and every class.
Tell us about a memorable/favorite moment teaching yoga:
I am new to this whole teaching thing so I guess my favorite part of teaching is when students tell me that they like my music or that the class was a good workout. I get a small sense of satisfaction in that.
Do you teach yoga full time? If not, what other things do you do for fun/work?
I teach yoga on a very part time basis right now. I am a Physical Therapist by day, but for fun I spend time with my wife, Rachel, and hang with my boys Theo, Vin and Paulie.
If you had one piece of advice for a beginner yogi, what would you say?
Give your practice time to develop. It is hard to master your practice in the first week and it only gets better with time.
If you had no restrictions (money, responsibilities etc.), what would you with the next 12 months?
I would travel with my beautiful wife Rachel, first in the USA and then abroad. We would definitely spend a lot of time on the beach!
What is your favorite song to sing aloud to when you are alone in your car?
Elderly Woman—Pearl Jam
Who inspires you to be your greatest self?
My wife—she pushes me each day to be a better me, both personally and professionally.
What is your your favorite quote: The Man in the Glass:
“When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.
For it isn’t your father, or mother, or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.
He’s the fellow to please – never mind all the rest
For he’s with you, clear to the end
And you’ve passed your most difficult, dangerous test
If the man in the glass is your friend.
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.”
