Hometown: Moreland Hills, OH
How many years have you practiced yoga: I’ve practiced yoga for 8 years.
Favorite Yoga pose: Supta baddha konasana and dancer’s pose.
Words to live by: True humility is recognizing that we are not on earth to see how important we can become, but to see how much difference we can make in the lives of others.
Why did you start practicing yoga: I was grieving organized sports. I needed discipline and one hour a day to focus on nothing but my physical and mental well-being. Yoga soon became a non-negociable part of my physical and mental self-care.
Mantra or daily affirmation: Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be.
Favorite Book: The Cure
What informs your practice: Always a clear intention that I set at the very beginning of class. Some examples I use frequently: gratitude, power, curiosity, playfulness, growth, push, embracing discomfort, surrender, presence, self love, strength, physical awareness, etc.
Advice for beginner yogis: Comparison keeps you out of the studio, humility keeps you in! Even your instructor at one point didn’t know what any of these poses meant. Recognize that the guy upside down right next to you was wobbling in his first class a year or two ago. Keep showing up- your mind body and soul will thank you. And make some friends while you’re at it!
3 words to describe you: silly, loving, honest
The pose that challenges you the most: Pigeon pose and good old warrior one!
The best advice I’ve ever received: A problem shared is a problem cut in half.
What’s your teaching style: My teaching style is to hold, guide, and push my students towards a personal journey into power. I encourage my students to view every class as an opportunity to create on their mat. My goal is for every student to walk out of the studio feeling better than when they walked in.
What do you do for fun: I like to cook, go to concerts, play tennis golf & pickle ball, take my dog Walter on a walk somewhere pretty, try new restaurants, and spend quality time with loved ones.
What are you most grateful for: sobriety!
What brings you peace: My dog, writing gratitude lists, being of service to others, drawing and painting, listening to good music with my eyes closed (try it), prayer and meditation, and being in bed before 10 PM :)
What is your happy place: snuggled up around a bonfire with my family.
Who/ what inspires you the most: Nature! A beautiful sunset and/ or sunrise make me view life just a little differently. Every time I leave inspired artistically and spiritually. Mindfully watching the start or end of a day makes me feel more connected to this life… and I love it!
